Incentive Programme of the Year: Winners from MINI UK hold their flag aloft at a scenic viewpoint on their Royal Enfield roadtrip

At the end of September, members of Black Tomato Agency donned their glad rags and headed west to the Hilton Park Lane for the illustrious C&IT Awards evening. A combination of never-seen-before creative touches, an action-packed itinerary and sheer bloody-minded determination to pull together the first UK incentive to Nepal since the 2015 earthquake saw the team called to the stage to collect the coveted ‘Incentive Programme of the Year’ award.

INCENTIVE PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR: MINI GOT GAME? THE ASCENT, NEPAL 2017
Our relationship with MINI UK goes way back and after delivering their groundbreaking incentive to Zimbabwe in 2016, we were excited for the challenge of devising a trip audacious enough to surpass it in 2017.

We were tasked with creating a programme packed with awe-inspiring experiences and exhilarating adventure that would motivate their retailers to outdo targets to ensure their seat on the plane. With the skyscraper peaks of the Himalayas to one side and steamy plains of India on the other, the thrill-seekers’ Nirvana of Nepal was handpicked as the perfect match for MINI.

With the 2015 earthquake still fresh in the memory and the country’s adventurous reputation in mind, we set about creating an action-packed itinerary full of money-can’t-buy experiences that showcased the very best of Nepal, with vital opportunities to contribute to local communities along the way.

Despite various operational challenges thrown up by the destination, the trip managed to surpass guests’ expectations at every turn. A Royal Enfield motorbike convoy into the Himalayan foothills, an adrenaline-fuelled whitewater rafting expedition, a bespoke MINI Base Camp built from scratch and a privatised all-singing, all-dancing finale in the Unesco-listed Bhaktapur Durbar Square all made for an unforgettable journey.

To the results: winners exceeded their targets contributing to a record-breaking year for MINI UK. The trip helped to create exceptional levels of retailer engagement and an “unbeatable” trip that guests “didn’t think could have been any better”.
